Allegories of the Tarot

Who hasn’t been fascinated by the mysterious Tarot, writer and reader alike? For centuries, fortune-telling by the Tarot has caught many an imagination, but nothing like what will be presented here.

22 cards… each an individual splinter of the human psyche.

22 writers… honing each splinter into a story of triumph and decay, arrogance and humility.

Stories of the brightest lights and the darkest corners of the weirdest minds.

22 cross-genre worlds.

22 portals into the Universal.

Only one way to get there.

Come with us. Cross the portals. The Universal awaits.

About the book

Once upon a time, there was an editor with a fascination for the Tarot. She was struck one day by a crazy idea. “Hey,” she said. “What if twenty-two writers each wrote a story about the twenty-two cards of the Major Arcana of the Tarot and were fashioned into an anthology?”

The idea would not leave her alone.

And thus, the Allegories of the Tarot was born.

Crowdfunded by a campaign on Indiegogo with the help and support of an amazing group of writers, twenty-two stories were crafted around the mysteries of the Tarot. The group includes a Pushcart Prize nominee, a Pulp Ark nominee, a former Bigfoot researcher, a journalist, an award-winning YA author, and a Rhysling Award winner. Professional writers, new talent, and a range of genres boggling the mind: Horror, Speculative Fiction, Bizarro Fiction, Erotica, Mystery, Humor, Paranormal, Epic Fantasy, Literary, Romance, and Historical Fantasy.

What has emerged is an outstanding collection of fiction, unique and mysterious. Stories that will make you cry, make you laugh, and make you think. Stories that make you feel the touch of the Universe.

Dare to step through the portal to shadowy realms and emotional journeys.

Early readers have fallen in love with the Allegories of the Tarot

Allegories of the Tarot Anthology is a magical book. Magic that will keep you turning the pages. There are muses, demons,  psychics, evil, and more! I shivered, I laughed and I even cried. Magic, I tell you. Magic.” -Julie Affleck

“Reviewing an anthology is slightly more difficult than discussing a book or comic because the tone varies from author to author. However, Allegories somehow flowed together as a well-matched whole. The project ended up feeling like several beads strung together to form a beautiful necklace that were more amazing for being paired together.” -Jodi Scaife

“All twenty-two stories in this volume are, in a word, superb. I found myself scouring the Internet as I read it; every story made me want to go find more work by its author. The ultimate compliment I can give Allegories is to say that when I finished it, I thought how I envy those who haven’t read it yet.” -Lisa Millraney

Spam

You know, I’ve been in the IT industry for almost 2 decades, I was around for the beginning.  I saw the BBS’s take off, I remember counting the minutes I had left to play the various ascii games.  I remember logging onto a Calgary BBS and talking to the admin Gandalf for almost the entire hour that I had a day and having him reset the time for me so that we could keep chatting.  I also saw the beginning of the ignorant side of the internet.  The spammers.  The viruses and the bugs.

Fast forward to 2013 and it makes me as disgusted now as it did back then.  I keep getting notices of new “subscribers” to the blog and every one has been spam.  I had to turn off the guest book on my citizensoldier.ca site because of these idiots.  And I shake my head as much now as I did then.  Who do they think they fool with this crap?  Why don’t you find a real job and leave the rest of the world alone.  Ignorant bastards.

There, rant over.  If I ever actually find a spammer, I think I might have a difficult time not punching them in the head.  The whole concept of what they do nauseates me.

Calgary Expo – SUCCESS!!

Such an amazing weekend.  Wil Wheaton signed a couple things for me.  He remembered me from my email of last year asking about self-publishing (which he replied to in 45 minutes).  I offered him a book which he gladly took – insisted that I sign it for him as well.  And we talked publishing for about 5 minutes.  Awesome start of sunday.

Then Norman Reedus .. after a lot of effort .. I finally got to see him.  I unrolled the poster infront of him and asked him if he could sign it.  He looks, looks again, points and said “Is that me!” I told him “Yes.  It’s a character in a book I wrote and published that I based on you.”  He said “No way!  Are you serious!”  a couple times.  then came around the table and down off the stage to give me a hug.  Then back on stage he kept saying “wow, this is so cool” and took a picture of it.  He happily accepted a book AND a deck of playing cards with my book cover on them.  He was just tickled beyond belief.  He is such a great guy.

So that was my weekend.. what did you do?

He just came back around after giving me a hug, digging for his phone and totally stoked about the whole thing.

The day finally came

I finally got to hold the physical embodiment of what I’ve been working on for so long. My author proofs came yesterday and wow. I LOVE them!! It is beyond surreal to hold my book in my hands…

Getting closer

Each day bring the launch closer and closer.  My publisher sent it through their editorial evaluation and they had tons of great things to say.  Only a few minor fixes – which I sent on to my copy-editor.  She has almost completed that step – promises to have it back to me this friday.  After which it goes back to my publisher for layout etc.

Everything seems to be in step for it being sent on to the retailers the beginning of April – with luck.  It all depends on how much time layout takes.  I’m pretty excited about seeing the finalized manuscript.

More news – frydaze.com lets you create customized phone/tablet cases.  I picked up an iPhone 5 with my book cover but also ordered an iPad and some other phone cases – Samsung and iPhone.  I can’t wait to get them.  How cool do they look.

Finally!!

Finally the day arrived!  I sent my manuscript to my publisher.  After almost a year of editing it was ready to go.  It should take 2-4 weeks to go through their formatting process and then it’s off to the online retailers.  That should take another 2-4 weeks.  Which means… end of April should see my first book available online.  In hardcover, paperback and ebook formats.

To say I’m excited doesn’t even come close.

Here is the book cover – I am so very happy with it.

New year, new posts

It has been a while, sorry about that. Life, editing and life again has kept me busy and away from here. I plan on changing that for 2013.

So what’s new since my last post?

Well I’ve had some more concept art done – 3 pieces based on 3 main characters and the actor/actress that I envision playing them.

I’ve finished writing, and editing, book one (Thank you Annetta!!!). It will be sent to my publisher this month (within 2 weeks I hope) – and should be available by the end of March or middle of April. And I can’t begin to explain how excited and awed that makes me.

I can feel book two pushing to the front of my head so I will start on that soon.

Concept art

I’ve had over 20 artists contact me interested in the project.  I’ve had a couple concept art pieces already sent in.  It’s quite exciting to see my characters come to life.
